AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card: review and features
Overview of the features, specifications, performance, price, and everything you need to know about the AMD RX 6900 XT video card
After a long wait, the AMD Radeon RX 6000 video cards (known as Big Navi ) are here. The RX 6900 XT is a high-end graphics card and the ultimate expression of the RDNA 2 architecture. This GPU is looking to compare itself to the GeForce RTX 3090, and it would be great news for gamers around the world to get closer to the $ 1500 GPU. USD from Nvidia for two-thirds of the price. But does it really measure up to the Nvidia titan? We will find out below in this review.
Features and Specifications
- Compute Units: 80
- Beam Accelerators: 80
- Boost frequency: 2250 MHz
- Gaming Frequency: 2015 MHz
- Streaming Processors: 5120
The Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card uses the Navi 21 GPU, as does the RX 6800 XT, with 80 CUs and a total of 5120 stream processors, an 11% increase over the RX 6800 XT. RDNA 2 architecture offers 30% more frequency with the same power consumption as the previous generation, or 50% energy savings while maintaining the same frequency. This means that you are getting more performance from the same components with RDNA 2.
This is an incredibly well thought out architecture, with improvements in clock speeds and power delivery. To enable the chip to operate with the same 3 00 W TGP as the RX 6800 XT, AMD is employing optimizations for each Navi 21 GPU destined for the RX 6900 XT. Perhaps the most notable feature added with RDNA 2 is ray tracing capabilities, made possible by the inclusion of ray accelerators from AMD.
The AMD Radeon graphics card will have third-party models arriving shortly after launch. In the meantime, only the reference model with the same heatsink and cooler design found in the RX 6800 XT will be available.
From the Radeon RX 6900 XT graphics card, you can expect 4K performance that exceeds 60fps in most modern games. However, it’s one thing to deliver 4K frame rates, it’s another to do it consistently across games and benchmarks. The truth is that this graphics card rarely reaches the performance of Nvidia’s RTX 3090, except in cases where the RX 6800 XT also manages to outperform the RTX 3090, which does not happen very often.
According to Tom’s Hardware’s test suite (which includes some of the latest PC games released), the RX 6900 XT is slightly faster than the RTX 3080 and can outperform the RTX 3090 in a few cases. In most games, it lags, especially in titles that support ray tracing. Ray tracing is important in single-player games, whereas it is discouraged for multiplayer games because it reduces fps.
The AMD RX 6900 XT graphics card has an introductory price of USD 999.
